Gorham, New Hampshire

It's very pretty and woodsy here in New Hampshire. Haven't seen any moose yet, but supposedly they are around.

We are in a woodsy private campground outside Gorham, NH, where the Old Man in the Mountain used to be. We're near Mt. Washington, the highest peak on the East Coast of the U.S. Mark wanted to hike to the top, but the weather hasn't been great, and Mt. Washington is known for turning yucky weather into deadly weather for hikers.

Katie and I looked around town; there is a railroad museum that was closed, but here's the cute caboose:

We played at a playground across the street from the train. Next to the train is this old 1956 ski gondola:

We went to the town library, which is in this old mansion:

I got a Grisham paperback there for ten cents (The Summons). We mailed our mail and did our laundry and ate lunch at the local pizza joint. Then we headed back across the Maine border to this interesting looking antique store:

It was the best antique store I've been in on this trip, and even before that. It was just loaded with dusty shelves and boxes filled with old stuff, so I almost felt like I was in someone's attic. Here's a small part of the inside of the barn (the barn and the house are both filled with stuff):

Unfortunately, only ten minutes after we arrived, Katie had to go potty, and the owner (who was a Hemingway lookalike) was a grumpy, crotchety man who said he had "no facilities for the public." What "public"? We were the only ones there. Anyway, the nearest potty was in our RV, 20 minutes away. So we didn't buy anything, needless to say. But I did see this WWI helmet that my brother might like. The guy wanted $20.

So Mark got some work done, and now we're off to Burlington, Vermont, our last U.S. destination before we head up to Montreal.
