It was sad leaving Toronto, but thrilling to see Niagara Falls. They were more beautiful than I imagined. And the Canadian side is nice because you are closest to the larger fall. Here are a few pictures; because of the mist, it is hard to show the falls entirely.
Mark leaves early Friday morning for Sacramento, and Katie and I will probably lay pretty low while he is gone, maybe going garage saling in Ann Arbor on Saturday, maybe making some cookie dough, maybe swimming here in this KOA's pond.
Here at the KOA, there is a nice lake here with two swans that live on it, a couple islands you can paddle to, and, best of all, a shallow swim area with a slide:
It has rained every day we have been here--mostly short showers, a few thunderstorms. On Thursday we got our mail, and we had a care package waiting from our friends the Shenoys from Seattle. Katie played with a pipe cleaner toy they sent:
On Friday, Katie and I explored Ann Arbor, and had ice cream at an old place that used to be a sandwich shop in the 1930s. Here she is in an old booth:
The college guy scooping the ice cream gave us huge portions, and I can actually say I couldn't finish mine (I didn't know that was possible). Katie was excited to work on them both:
Ann Arbor is a pretty college town with numerous mansions, many of them now used by the university. On Saturday, Katie and I went garage saling there (ooh that was fun), and found a professor who was clearing out decades of collected stuff before moving. I bought a few antique children's books from him, and I saw other folks getting some really neat antiques from him.
Katie played with some camping neighbors back at the KOA's playground, and we swimmed and did laundry over the weekend. I bought a book on Cascading Style Sheets, to try upgrading my web-building skills, and we cleaned and made cookie dough. Nothing too exciting. Today, we leave for northern Indiana. We have a few days to try getting our bad jack fixed (it bent on us way back in Fairfax, VA) and maybe get the dashboard a/c worked on. Also we will get a tour of the factory where they made this rig! That should be exciting.
You can walk about a mile or so along this railing, so you can get close shots of the American falls too; there are nice stone kiosks where you can buy ice cream, but there are also dozens of restaurants (Hard Rock Cafe) and high rise hotels.
